So I'd heard earlier in the year that my child, Alex, had written a beautiful poem while working with a poet in residence at school. I'd asked to see it. Repeatedly. I was told, "Oh, don't worry, you will see it eventually". It finally came home yesterday.
I am going to share what my child wrote (he's given me permission to of course).
Every thing that has lately stressed me out, stressed him out, stressed our parent/child relationship out (mostly due to school), welled up and fell away with my tears of pride.
In My Mind
In my mind
Is a vast wilderness
In my mind are mountains
caked with lavender flowers
Bright blue lakes
with the clouds swimming in the night
Dragons fly
higher than the tallest oak
And the walking comic books
play in an Irish Orchestra
with light sabers
as their bows
Playing
Like a rapid thunder storm
Playing
Like a cold silk star
In my mind
In my mind
The beating of a drum
Is like an earthquake
That lights the night on fire
And then
It's as gentle
as the butterflies wings
breaking dawn
In my mind
the children run down the street
where the baker is baking fresh pies in his oven
In my mind
everybody is happy
big or small in every single way
In my mind
The day comes to an end
And when a mothers soft majestic lullaby reaches
your heart
The day slips out
through your toes
Away
Until you can feel
never ending joy
In my mind
One very proud Mom....

WOW! That is beautiful. What a joy for your boy to bring that home and share it with you...
